Rocky Mountain Fun

The Crested Butte area, its picturesque mountains, and many streams and lakes offer a full range of mountain activities, including:

  • 18-hole Robert Trent Jones golf course
  • numerous tennis courts
  • nature hikes
  • 4-wheel drive tours

Choose from any of the activities available in the area as well as a selection of Conference-organized, scheduled activities each day, including nature hikes, 4-wheel drive mountain tours, horseback rides, scenic bus tours, river rafting, tennis, fishing and golf tournaments, and a fun run. Some activities require fees or charges not included in the registration fee. Sign up for all activities is on Monday morning between 9 a.m. and noon.

Nature Hikes

Group hikes are offered Tuesday through Friday of the Conference. At least one of the hikes is considered difficult, while others vary from easy to moderate. Usually included is a hike to Judd Falls, as well as a hike from the top of the lift up to the High Meadow or the top of the peak. There are many trails in the Crested Butte area, and those who are interested might find it worth their while to purchase a book or guide map from one of the local book stores or outfitters.

Fishing

The Dr. Bob Fishing Tournament is an annual offering, providing a great experience and plenty of fun for everyone - beginners or experts - families and friends. The Taylor Park Boat House provides most equipment, but you will need to bring polarized sunglasses, brimmed cap or hat, rain gear, drinking water, food or snacks, sweater or jack, insect repellent, sunscreen, and a cooler with ice to take back all the trout you catch.

Golf

Each year the Conference sponsors the Bill Wilson Open Golf Tournament. It is held at either the Crested Butte Country Club or in Gunnison at the Dos Rios Club. Playing at this altitude is a new experience.

Tennis

The Wilson Cup Tennis Tournament is another annual event. The entry fee includes tennis balls, water, and a box lunch.

Softball

The Crested Butte group challenges the conference to put together a team. Rising to the challenge each year, the conference team gives as good as they get for a great time. Look for a re-match next year.

Butte Scoot

The Butte Scoot is a 5K Fun Run/Walk traditionally held on Friday morning on Slate River Road, located between the town of Crested Butte and Mt. Crested Butte. Anyway you get to the finish line is fine. Refreshments are provided and prizes are awarded in various age groups.
